Privacy

The app collects nothing. There is no account, no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising, and no server of ours. What you read, search, say and ask stays on your iPad or Mac. This is not a promise we keep by policy; it is how the app is built — there is no code in it that sends what you do anywhere.

Two things that do use the network, both optional

Better speech recognition

Speech is normally recognised on the device. If you turn on Better speech recognition in Settings › Read Aloud, what you say into the microphone is sent to Apple's speech service to be turned into words, under Apple's privacy terms, not ours. It is off unless you turn it on, and the app says so beside the switch.

The commentary download

Five of the commentaries are a one-time download of about 157 MB rather than part of the app. The file is fetched from GitHub, which sees the request the way any website sees a visit — an address, a time — and nothing else. The app sends nothing with it. You can remove the download in Settings and the app is complete without it.

Siri and Shortcuts

If you ask Siri to open a chapter or ask a question, Siri handles your speech under Apple's terms and passes the result to the app on the device.

What's on the device

The King James text, the reference works and any commentary download are kept in the app's own storage. Your settings, your history of what you've asked and where you've been, and any bookmark are kept there too, and go when the app is deleted. Nothing is backed up to iCloud by the app except through your own device backup, if you have one.

Children

The app has no accounts and collects nothing, from anyone.
